Trail brings story books to life
FAMILIES from all around Trowbridge came to participate in the second annual Holbrook Elementary School Scarecrow Trail over the weekend.
A record number of children’s storybook-themed scarecrows have been spread throughout the Holbrook area.
Classes at the school have been working on creating some of these scarecrows over the past few weeks. Other scarecrows were made by the families of the students.
The event hosted by the school’s PTA raised a total of £ 870 which will allow a theater company to perform a pantomime at school this Christmas.
Holbrook Elementary School PTA President Vicki Barton said: “It is such a great feeling when you walk the Scarecrow Trail.
“You see people talking to each other who might not normally socialize and you see groups of families getting together and walking the trail, so there is a real sense of community throughout the event.
“The kids are so proud of trying to find the scarecrow they made in their classrooms that they have no idea where the scarecrows will be.
“You can hear the excitement of the kids when they find their own scarecrow.
“It’s something that everyone really enjoys and we want to make it an annual event.
“We are also trying to be greener with all of our events by minimizing single use plastics by filling reusable cups rather than giving away plastic bottles.”
“We are delighted with the amount we have raised as it is enough to cover the pantomime show that the kids will love as Christmas approaches, it will be a real treat.
“The teachers plan to build performance into their lessons throughout the week, there will be plenty in store.”
